Day 2 – Versailles Palace Tour – Overnight Travel to London
After a very nice French breakfast in your hotel, you will travel to Versailles Palace, former Royal French residence and government centre, now a national landmark. It's in the town of Versailles and was the original house for Louis XIII (ruled from 1610–43) and his family, primarily a hunting lodge and a private retreat. In 1624 Jacques Lemercier was commissioned by the King to build a castle at the site. Today the façade outside the courtyard overlooking the marble is preserved. Louis XIV (ruling from 1643 to 1715) guided the residence to a huge and extravagant complex, surrounded by stylish French and English gardens (1661 to 1710). It was intended to glorify the King in every detail of its construction. One of the main reasons to come to Versailles is its gardens. André Le Nôtre, perhaps the famous and most important architect in French history, designed the gardens of Versailles. Venetian gondolas crossed the Grand Canal during Louis XIV's tenure in Versailles and modern guests in the palace can ply in a small rowboat in small waterways. Versailles is enormous and there is not enough time to see all the magnificent sights so the aim is to see the most important places in Versailles. After lunch it’s time to leave from Versailles and return to London. Your arrival would be by night as you will have some breaks on the way back to London. We hope you will enjoy your stay in beautiful France. Hope to see you next time in one of our tours offered by Tourope UK.
